The past few days have been a little more nostalgic than I would like.

When we heard mass at Santuario, there was a procession for Christ the King and lo and behold, most of the priests I grew up with in school were all there.

Father Rodriguez who I always loved because of his raspy voice and big belly.

Father Centina, whose version of “Ama Namin” never failed to reduce the whole school congregation into a mass of shaking shoulders. Rumor has it that once, when he was hearing confession, he couldn’t stand what the little boy told him so he took off his belt to threaten him with a spanking.

Father Julian Mazana whose shorts are always too short and too tight (he plays tennis).

I almost teared up. Somehow, the memories of being in that school washed over me like, yes, a very corny tidal wave. Like that of “The Seatmate Syndrome,” which basically translates to me having had crushes on almost all the boys that sat beside me. The “Seatmate Syndrome” also translates to all my seatmates having lower grades when they were beside me, as compared to when they sit somewhere else. Always. I’m almost proud of that statistic, namely because it means I am interesting.

Also, for some reason, I remember when I was in the sixth grade, when my friends and I went to the grassiest part of the soccer field to play Spirit of the Coin. We were all so terrified but at the same time, we couldn’t let go of that octagonal 2-peso coin and our manila folder with the letter chart. We asked the spirit his/her name and the coin slowly spelled the letters L-U-C-I out before we jumped up screaming our heads off and ran towards the basketball courts. I still don’t know whether anyone was pushing the coin or not, we were all so terrified. When we went back to the classroom, we all felt superior, like we had a secret nobody else could know.

Today I went to school for a Photoshop class and to finally research for that book I’m helping out with. It was a little strange entering the English Department because technically, we didn’t belong there anymore. We weren’t students, for one. It was great seeing Ma’am Rica, who, as always, was a delight to talk to.

“I’m having so much fun in UP. I wrote a sex essay!”

Of course we had to have copies of that. Of course.

To Sir Vince, I could only blurt out, “I’m not happy!” I have no idea why I told him that, but I did, anyway.

As for Sir Max, well, it’s always great seeing him.

Oh, and Sir Danton propositioned Martin to pose for his new magazine. Hoots all around. I will never let him live that down. I will tell everyone and I will never let anyone let him live that down.

I also met Naya, who I was too nervous to even look at. I always get terrible stage fright when I encounter people I know from online, heh.

I also saw Kristine, yay.

I guess it was a good day, if it weren’t for the heavy feeling I always get when we fight.

Oh, and if my car didn’t stall on me and make me stop in the middle of the highway. It was bad because I was actually enjoying the rush of driving (since I’ve only driven to and from Makati, recently) a long distance because my senses become more alert and takes my mind off other things I don’t want to be thinking about. 20 minutes to home and my accelerator stopped working. The odometer stopped. The speedometer got stuck at 40 kph, even if the car had stopped fully. The signal lights wouldn’t work. Hurrah.

Luckily, I was able to drive home after I re-started the engine.

Some day.

Finally, I have taken to reading “Ivanhoe” because believe it or not, I haven’t read it. We’ll see how this goes.

Cris: WOW! galing ah. I especially love how he says "Amen" as "Emehn." He's so cute and cranky.

Naya: I know, ugh. Very bad with small talk but it was great "meeting" you. Seriously :) Chaka give up na ako sa Ivanhoe. Buti nakakita pa ako ng ibang libro. Next time na lang yung Ivanhoe pag wala na talaga.
