Last year, Camille lent me her copy of 84 Charing Cross Road and I loved it to pieces. Aside from the fact that it was in epistolary form, it was so charming that I wanted to be Helene Hanff - pushy, generous, and compassionate. I also wanted a penpal like Frank Doel or at the very least, be really good friends with an intelligent bookshop owner and his/her staff.

I cried at the end.

Today was my lucky day because my mother was insisting that I watch this movie because Anthony Hopkins was in it (we both have huge crushes on Anthony Hopkins), and it was about secondhand bookstores. It turned out to be the film adaptation of that charming charming book that I still long to own a copy of. Every time Anne Bancroft was onscreen, my mom would go, "Look! She's just like you! Talking about the smell of books!"

We both cried at the end.

Books and films should always be this charming.

You like the smell of books too? :) I love the smell of new books, and the smell of old books transports me back in time. I love that feeling.

My mother wanted to bring me to the doctor when i was in the 4th grade, I wouldn't stop smelling the books, she thought I was getting addicted to something harmful (i.e. chemicals, etc), haha.

This entry makes me want to read the book and watch the movie! Did the movie have the same title too?

Yeah same title :)

Oh no, now I'm afraid I hyped it up. It's a true story, so I guess that's one of the highlights. Very cleverly done.

You totally disappeared from "the other world" (LJ) Joey! haha. I don't blame you. And I'm glad I found your other place.
